Over 35 anglers fished the venue on Wed.29th June, held at the Burrow Beach in Kilmore Quay.
The 3hr competition which was hosted by Kilmore SAC, was fished by Anglers from all walks of life, including several Juniors. Prizes were sponsored by local business "Kehoe's Hardware, Marine & Tackle" in Kilmore.
Conditions were tough from the start, with heavy weed making things very difficult for some Anglers and Juniors- however as the evening wore on, the weed began to ease and most of those who could keep above the weed managed to connect with fish.
The rain held off for the duration and a light Westerly breeze produced a nice surf on the beach. Species caught were Flounder, Dabs, Bass and Smoothounds. All fish were on a catch & release basis. Prizegiving was held afterwards in the Stella Maris Centre, where Sandwiches & Hot drinks awaited tired anglers!!
Dean Quigley (Kilmore SAC) took 1st place, followed by Frank Flanagan (Menapia SAC) in second, and Mick Lacey (Kilmore SAC) in third place.
Several members of Menapia SAC who fished the competition, would like to take the opportunity to extend their gratitude to the Kilmore SAC for their hospitality (Mick & John in particular) - also the Sandwich makers, the Stella Maris Centre, and the sponsors "Kehoes Hardware & Marine".
It was an enjoyable evening and we are looking forward to next year already!!
